Log Staining/Fabrication
Logs are an elegant and beautiful addition to the look and feel of a deck railing and house architecture. Log railings are challenging to keep looking nice and there has been significant evolution in the products used to treat logs. Modern stains and finishes are highly transparent, sheen forming or flat, and easy to maintain when done properly.
Log rail fabrication is a time consuming process but the results can be amazing. We can replace posts, horizontal receiving rails and complete rail sections depending on what's needed.
Log restoration is difficult and often not worth the effort on older log railings. We can often replace the railing section and leave the log posts in place.
Installation:
Railing replacement can actually be better economically over the long term if it is done with maintenance free materials. We can also save you money up front with our range of inexpensive, prefabbed metal panels and cable. In many cases we can use the existing posts as well which saves more money while retaining some of the original character of the structure.
Railing types we specialize in:
- Cable
- Mesh
- Metal baluster
- Metal and wood frames/posts available
Re-staining:
Re-staining logs is probably the most inefficient deck practices. We have to charge a relatively high price to be able to properly stain a a railing, and since most railings contain horizontal surfaces, they often need to be re-stained more than every 4 years. That being said we do offer rail staining or painting, and use the best materials and practices available.
Key features of our rail staining:
- Most cost efficient solution on most existing logs.
- Proper log maintenance can produce a high quality translucent finish
- Older logs can be prepared, scraped, washed and re-stained using a solid "opaque" stain which makes many wooden railings look new and fresh.
